The mirror stage of childhood, when our sense of self begins to form, marks the beginning of a lifetime of layered experience to which our bodies hold us accountable. Charlotte Wilson studies the fleeting reactions to traumatic experiences that can occur randomly throughout our lives when we are subconsciously triggered by seemingly innocent phenomena. Taking guidance from photo-therapy, Wilson studies the shape of trauma through metaphorical still life images. By naming, identifying, and representing trauma in this way, she accepts it as a dormant presence, something lived with rather than something to be overcome.
